Welcome! I’m Abbey and I love to paint furniture!
I grew up in Southwest Virginia, in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, surrounded by beautiful mountains and steep valleys. I still remember learning to drive on those super curvy roads! I left those mountains after college and have lived in several places, including Kentucky and Tennessee. But for the past 21 years I call North Carolina home. My family and I live in the Piedmont Triad. area. It’s a great location, halfway between the mountains to the west and the gorgeous North Carolina coast to the east.
I love sweet creamy coffee and good ole’ southern sweet iced tea! I like my coffee hot and my tea cold! The only way I can drink iced coffee is with flavoring like french vanilla and lots of cream. Guess I have a sweet tooth! I also love a really good lasagna and I love to make chocolate pies and homemade pizzas!
I’m in the over 40 but under 50 club, married and the mother of two children. My daughter is a junior in high school and my son is in his last year of elementary school. I have been a family nurse practitioner for 23 years and spent the last 15 years working in college student health.
My current big life event is that we are having a house built. After being in the same “starter” home for nearly 20 years, I’m so looking forward to building a home that’s new and just the way I want it! Within the budget that is!
We like to do day hikes, go to the pool, drive our jeep through the country or mountains with the top off and we are big Disney fans. My husband is a big outdoorsman and coaches sporting clays. My daughter’s getting ready for college since she is a senior and my son loves Minecraft and playing card games and will start middle school in the fall. I’m not ready to have a senior in high school and a middle schooler, but it’s here and I try to count my blessings, do the best I can, and help them navigate all these changes and events!
My family is pretty typical of most with busy evenings of after school activities and getting ready for the next day ahead with dinner, homework, and packing lunches. What has held me back from starting my blog to this point has been that nagging question of “how am I supposed to find time to fit anything else in this busy life?”
Over the last few years I have discovered a passion for reviving old, vintage, used or just “not so pretty” furniture pieces. Something about painting a piece and bringing it back to life or just changing a piece to match or brighten a room is so very rewarding! I must admit that I’m addicted to buying paints and brushes as well! I have an aversion to brown furniture! I do love to add color on pieces, but I tend to paint mostly whites, blues, and grays! I think my husband and children think I’ve gone overboard with the painting, but they have learned to step around “new” pieces of furniture in the garage, drying paint brushes in the kitchen sink, and even painting projects on the kitchen table! I am so looking forward to having a dedicated painting workspace in the new house and much better lighting by which to paint and stage furniture!
I do hope that if you love to paint furniture or just want inspiration that you’ll find some here! I’m happy to help with any questions you have about chalk and mineral painting! You can reach me by email and I’m active on Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram. I’m planning to add some YouTube videos soon!
Love,
Abbey
