First You Need To Prime.:
French Provincial furniture has a slick veneer so a bonding primer is needed to help your paint color adhere. To learn more about primers click here.
The French Provincial Desk has been primed with two coats of Wise Owl Stain Eliminating Primer in Gray. Learn more about primers by clicking here to see the linked post on "Primer For Painted Furniture".
This Black Cherry Wise Owl Paint is such a rich color. It takes several coats to get good coverage for this desk. To see another makeover in this color click here.
Next, I added a stencil design in gold to the painted top. To stencil I am using the Best Dang Brush! So great for stenciling. To learn more about stenciling check here to see the linked post on How To Stencil Painted Furniture.
This is how to make the metallic paste for stenciling and adding gold accents. Use Posh Chalk Pigments and Gloss Clear Coat by Dixie Belle. This gold is highly pigmented and magnificent. Click here to read more.
Use an artist brush and add gold accenting along the grooves and embellishments. The gold accents add such a gorgeous flair to any furniture makeover. Learn more about adding gold accents to painted furniture in the linked post. Just click here to read more.
You can see here the top with the stenciled design in gold. Also the gold accenting brushed around the grooves and edging on this French Provincial Desk Makeover.
Next up, I added a transfer with gold script by Redesign With Prima. The transfer was cut to fit and added to the drawer fronts. Get creative with transfers. So many designs available! Check out my post on Transfers in this link for more info. Click here.
